With the participation of international figures, provincial authorities and specialists from the technology ecosystem, Universidad Champagnat held the event Blockchain: Governance and Innovation Cases, organised by the Faculty of Computer Science and Design and the Blockchain Club, together with the Polkadot Blockchain Academy.
Universidad Champagnat held this Tuesday the event Blockchain: Governance and Innovation Cases, a gathering that brought together specialists, authorities and organisations from the technology ecosystem to debate the challenges and opportunities offered by decentralised infrastructures.
This event was organised by the Faculty of Computer Science and Design of the aforementioned institution, through its Blockchain Club, in partnership with the Polkadot Blockchain Academy.
The opening was delivered by rector Marcelo Chamorro; the Chief Business Officer of Polkadot Blockchain Academy, Marina Marchesotti; and the mayor of Luján de Cuyo, Esteban Allasino, who highlighted the academic work and the importance of fostering spaces for reflection on emerging technologies.
Chamorro underscored the relevance of the event for “strengthening training in decentralised technologies and promoting bridges between academia, the public sector and industry.”
Marchesotti in turn praised Mendoza’s innovation agenda and the work of the local ecosystem to “accelerate the adoption of more transparent and efficient digital governance models.”
Allasino for his part affirmed that “decentralised digital identity technologies are a concrete tool for improving services and the relationship between the State and its residents.”
The event also had the support of technology companies driving blockchain and data-based solutions: e-Sueldos, Civitas Inteligencia Aumentada and OpenVino.
Institutions, Transparency and Regulations
The central conference was delivered by renowned researcher Primavera De Filippi, director of the CNRS in Paris and member of the Harvard Berkman Klein Center, one of the most influential voices in the world on digital law and governance.
During her presentation, she analysed how blockchain technology can contribute to strengthening institutional transparency, increasing public trust and enabling new regulatory innovation frameworks. Her presentation set the academic and conceptual tone for the day.
Digital Identity, Traceability and New Economies
The agenda continued with two presentations on applied innovation in Mendoza.
First, mayor Esteban Allasino presented Mi Luján Digital, a pioneering project in Argentina and Latin America that integrates Decentralised Digital Identity (DID) to improve interaction between citizens and the municipality. The initiative forms part of the department’s digital transformation strategy and has already been recognised in various spheres.
Next came Mike Tango Bravo, founder of Costaflores Organic Vineyard and creator of OpenVino, the project driving the world’s first open-source winery and a wine-backed cryptocurrency, where each token represents a bottle. His talk explored in depth how decentralisation can generate new business models for traditional industries.
Governance, Regulation and the Future of Blockchain in Mendoza
The closing session was led by a panel comprising specialists from the Polkadot Blockchain Academy and academics from Universidad Champagnat:
- Marcelo Palma, Director of R&D&I at ICONO SA and professor at U. Champagnat, expert in AI and blockchain.
- Luis Canessa, Latin American reference in digital innovation and co-founder of the Blockchain Club.
- Moderator: Carlos Aguiló, graduate of the Polkadot Blockchain Academy and reference in Web3 ecosystem development.
The specialists debated regulatory challenges, digital governance models and the conditions necessary to scale pilot projects in the public and private sectors of Mendoza.
The day concluded with remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Design, Mariana Brachetta. This was followed by an institutional photograph and a networking session that brought together students, researchers, entrepreneurs, authorities and industry representatives.
With this gathering, Universidad Champagnat reaffirmed its commitment to building a knowledge ecosystem that drives decentralised, secure and transparent technologies, consolidating its role as a key actor in the formation and debate on innovation in the region.
