Nuevo Diario Web – Exclusive: ‘Santiago has an advantage over the rest of the country,’ says Marchesotti.

Santiago del Estero welcomes global Web3 figures across two days of innovation and digital future, and the event was previewed in detail on LV11.

The city of Santiago del Estero becomes today and tomorrow the centre of an unprecedented event for the Norte Grande and for the country, with the holding of two intensive days on blockchain, Web3, digital identity, governance and decentralised economy, led by international figures from the technology ecosystem.

The gathering, organised by the provincial Government and the Polkadot Blockchain Academy (PBA), features the participation of Argentine Marina Paola Marchesotti, director of Blockchain and Web3 at the IALAB of the UBA, co-founder of the Polkadot Blockchain Academy and current CBO of Polkadot Academy, as well as global figures such as Primavera De Filippi and the creator of Polkadot, renowned scientist and cryptographer Dr. Gavin Wood.

Activities take place at the Forum Convention Centre, with free and open entry, and limited capacity on a first-come, first-served basis.

An International Agenda in Santiago: Two Days to Think About the Future

First Day: Youth, Innovation and Technological Creation

Wednesday 19, from 14:00 to 18:00, Forum Convention Centre

The gathering opened with the institutional welcome delivered by Marina Marchesotti and Pauline Cohen Vorms, representatives of Polkadot Blockchain Academy. This was followed by an intensive schedule oriented especially towards secondary school students, young programmers and entrepreneurs.

Among the highlighted activities:

  • Keynote “Blockchain and Youth: Innovation, Autonomy and Social Transformation,” delivered by Primavera De Filippi, global reference in digital governance.
  • Panel “From Users to Creators: Understanding the Web3 Revolution,” featuring Carlos Aguiló and Lovisa Björna.
  • Presentation of Guardians ID, on decentralised identity and the regional economy, by Alan Cura.
  • Immersive activities and panels on creative economies, digital cooperation and new employment opportunities in Web3.

Marchesotti explained that the day is oriented towards “showing young people where true innovation lies, what tools they need to know and what the most in-demand competencies will be in a world shaped by AI, digital traceability and decentralisation.”

Blockchain, Identity and Governance: Marina Marchesotti’s Perspective on LV11

Prior to the gathering, Marchesotti participated in the Actualidad Política programme on Radio LV11, where she explained in detail the objectives of these days and the province’s role in the technology ecosystem.

“It is my first time in Santiago del Estero and I am very proud to be Argentine and to be here, invited by all of you,” she expressed at the start of the interview.

The specialist explained that her arrival in the country is also linked to the Ball project, a technology initiative connected to Argentine football that plans to launch a global “digital passport” for supporters, based on decentralised identity and developed on Polkadot’s Web3 infrastructure.

According to her, the project will be “used by a community of approximately three hundred million fans around the world,” which demands a level of security and scalability that only high-traceability technologies can guarantee.

On Global Service Outages

The interviewer mentioned the international network outage on a recent day, and Marchesotti elaborated:

“It is a perfect example. When a centralised service fails, everything fails. It is not one server that goes down: companies, banks, hospitals, governments and schools go down. Society as a whole depends on a handful of technology giants. That is why we talk about decentralising: so that one error does not paralyse the world.”

She added that this vulnerability is not technological but structural:

“We need systems that function independently of a single provider. Blockchain allows that: for information to be distributed and impossible to delete, manipulate or alter.”

What Blockchain Is and Why It Matters: “It Is the Technology That Makes Data Unalterable”

Throughout the interview, Marchesotti developed key concepts on blockchain, identity and public governance:

“Blockchain is a protocol that allows data and rights, currently made vulnerable by digital centralisation, to be safeguarded with the highest level of security.”

“We are accustomed to our identities, data and movements depending on very few companies. When those companies fail, as happened with the global service outage, the world stops.”

“Digital identity will be the central theme of the next decade. Today we depend on centralised platforms that manage our data, our reputation, the records we work with and even our transactions. That model is exhausted. Web3 proposes that identity returns to the person and not to a company.”

She also explained that blockchain technology is not limited to cryptocurrencies, but enables systems of absolute traceability: from digital property deeds to public benefit programmes.

“In blockchain, nothing can be altered. What is written remains forever. That enables transparency, participation and the elimination of intermediaries.”

A Dialogue Between Governors and the Creator of Polkadot

Second Day: Governance, Transparency and Public Policy

Thursday 20, from 15:00 to 18:00, Forum Convention Centre

The day of 20 November will be led by Dr. Gavin Wood, creator of Polkadot, co-creator of Ethereum and one of the most influential figures in the world in cryptography and decentralised protocol design.

Governor Gerardo Zamora convened ten Norte Grande governors to participate in the gathering, which will include:

  • Opening by Marchesotti and Pauline Cohen Vorms
  • Keynote by Dr. Gavin Wood
  • Conference by Primavera De Filippi on “Blockchain for Public Management”
  • Presentation of Guardians ID for governments and organisations
  • Closing panel with authorities

It also emerged that the city’s mayor intends to name Wood an illustrious visitor, in recognition of his scientific career.

“Argentine Young People Have Enormous Potential”

Marchesotti dedicated a portion of the interview to speaking directly to young people:

“For secondary school students and university students, this is a unique opportunity. Web3 demands programmers, designers, community managers, content creators, data analysts and digital governance specialists. These are quality jobs that can be done from anywhere in the world.”

She added:

“Argentina has talent. What is missing is integration, training and access to global networks. These days are here to unite those worlds.”

“Santiago Has an Advantage Over the Rest of the Country”

Marchesotti highlighted the provincial Government’s decision to invest in training and create spaces for debate on strategic technologies:

“It is innovative that Governor Zamora organised this gathering and invited Dr. Gavin Wood. He is not coming to teach technology: he is coming to teach people to think differently.“

The specialist noted that countries such as Hong Kong, Indonesia and Switzerland are already working with Polkadot Academy to implement on-chain systems, meaning fully digitalised and with public traceability.

She added:

“The adoption of these technologies will enormously reduce costs, increase security and allow states to manage more transparently. Santiago del Estero is taking a step that many governments around the world wish to take.“

A Future That Has Already Arrived: Digital Identity, Decentralisation and New Economies

The days seek to introduce into public debate concepts that will be central in the coming years:

  • Self-sovereign digital identity
  • Transparent governance and state traceability
  • Automated social contracts
  • Digital cooperativism (DAO)
  • New creative economies and citizen participation
  • Web3 infrastructure for education, health and production

For Marchesotti, the principal message is clear:

“An era is coming where we will have to question ourselves, unlearn and learn new things. Technology can help us become a freer, more democratic and safer society.”
